NCC (BCA) – NCC 2016 REQUIMENTS

The BCA Volume One;
Section B – Structure, Part B1 – Structural Provisions, to Performance Requirements under BP1.1 (xv) termite actions.
In Part B1 – Structural Provisions, to the Deemed-To-Satisfy Provisions under B1.4 (i), (i) and (ii) Termite risk management and Durable Notice shall meet compliance for termite management in accordance with the BCA.

The BCA Volume Two;
Section 2 – Performance Provisions, Part 2.1 – Structure, to Performance Requirements under P2.1.1 (b) (xv) termite actions.
In Section 3 – Acceptable Construction, Part 3.1 – Site Preparation, to Deemed-To- Satisfy Provisions under Part 3.1.3 – Termite Risk Management and Durable Notice shall meet compliance for termite management in accordance with AS 3660.1-2014. The Part 3.1.3.4 Durable Notice is relevant to State and Territory but where removed from the Standard AS 3660.1-2014 can be found in BCA 2016 Part 3.1.3.4.
State and Territory amendments to the BCA 2016 include;

• Qld – to Class 1 and Class 10 buildings in addition to BP 1.1 performance requirements delete P2.1.1 and replace with P2.1.3 which requires the use of a suitable termite management system (measure) that has a design life of at least 50 years, is easily and readily accessible for replenishable or replacement and is cable of being replenished or replaced.
• Qld – to Class 1 and Class 10 buildings delete 3.1.3.1 and replace with 3.1.3.1 Application.
• Qld – to Class 1 and Class 10 buildings delete 3.1.3.2 and replace with 3.1.3.2 Requirements for termite management systems.
• Qld – to Class 1 and Class 10 buildings delete 3.1.3.3 and replace with 3.1.3.2 Termite management systems.
• Qld – to Class 1 and Class 10 buildings delete Table.3.1.3.1 and replace with Table 3.1.3.1 Acceptable termite management systems and components.

• NT – to Class 1 and Class 10 buildings delete 3.1.3.2 (b)(v) and replace with
(v) Timber — naturally termite resistant timber in accordance with Appendix C of AS 3660.1 in areas where Mastotermes darwiniensis are not prevalent.
• NT – to Class 1 and Class 10 buildings delete 3.1.3.3 (d) and replace with
3.1.3.3 (d) Termite management systems.

In South Australia builders shall comply in addition to the requirements of the NCC (BCA) and to the South Australian Building Code for domestic construction, specifically Clause 2.5 Termite Barriers and for raft slabs used as termite barriers must comply with the requirements of Clause 3.4.3 Raft slabs as termite barriers.

At the time of writing these reviews under the BCA 2016 Volume One and Volume Two there were no amendments specific to Western Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and the ACT. Termites are not considered to be a risk in Tasmania and a lesser risk in parts of Victoria.
